he is not supposed to be here.

the others are nice enough, for strangers he's been dragged across worlds to meet. it's less about them, though, and more about whatever magic has woven it's way into his chest and gripped onto his beating heart. impossible feats grant impossible chances. at least one impossible thing came easier than others- the sculk knows him worlds across worlds. he asks, and it answers and grows.

but he's seen what happens when the tasks are not completed, and death tears through life again and again. something about it is terrifying- to just know, somehow, there is no fixing that, the change that came upon them.

(the soul shard in his back is gone, midas-touched and aching like a phantom limb. how is he meant to find his way home, now?)

all of them are nice enough- even the ghosts, the visible and the not. but he's not entirely sure how to interact with them, and he's certainly not close enough to tell them about himself. maybe he should've.

arin was kind, if- and here mars flusters a little over his own mental wording, apologetic- perhaps clumsy. if there was any easier way to help him gain back impossibilities, mars would have in a heartbeat, but their paths had so rarely crossed, and there had been little chance- and then, he was something else beyond midas-held, deep and purple and molten core gone solid.

mars never gets to tell him.

here is the thing, that day- the arrow is fast and true. a little warning shot, a little jolt, and it does make mars jump a bit, but it doesn't make him fall. he glimpses arin turning the other way. he commends him on the aim, and goes on.

the arrow does not hurt him fiercely, does not pierce though armor or skin, does not push him over the edge of the staircase onto the cliff at the lake.

at most- and here is where mars sighs- the arrows does nothing more than sting.

fortune favors the fae, dandy whispers to him later, when he confesses it all. he isn't sure if that's meant to be a comfort or another statement of fact, because while that's usually true...

not for him. mars is fae, yes, but he is also something other, and that other runs deep, and he's long since come to terms that being other and fae does not mix. he has long, long accepted that curse, word of mouth from the being who bestowed it upon him.

but here, the other does not matter. here, fortune favors the fae, unfortunately.

here, mars finds treasures with relative ease, and gets lost and finds his way home without any issues, and survives death's design again and again. here, arin tests his luck, tests the waters, tests the idea of his oncoming storm.

here, a sting is given, and a sting, eventually, fatally returned.

sorry, mars warbles gently, when he lights the candle by the newly dug grave. i should have said something. i should have warned you all.

the presence of the ghost that shares his name is missing, that day, but the cats still mewl and stare and empty corners in the house when they go to their beds.

down to darkness, dandy says later. mars is used to it being a sort of gentle resting prayer, a reassurance. now, it feels like a threat.

So in a very unfortunate turn of events, I lost my last life in YDYD: O. I will not go into too much detail about my death, but it was by bees. Yes, bees. I was entirely correct when we started that I was there to party or die stupidly. And boy did I die stupidly.

Death history:

Was attempting to escape a zombie, skeleton, some lava, and fire while in a mineshaft. Death was probably likely to falling or a mob. (4/5)

Fell through the mob grinder (or harm farm TM) and then nearly did it again a few minutes later (3/5)

Creeper exploded through armor and a shield. It was near the mob grinder but did not originate from the grinder. (2/5)

Gained a life back! (3/5!)

Fell off the scaffolding that led to the top of the mob grinder where I was building a home at the time. (2/5)

Fell into a ravine near the shole (sheep hole/farm) (1/5 D:)

Last life: Lost to bees. No, I will not elaborate.

Because I am now a ghost, I will start taking screenshots and will try to assist in creating summaries for future sessions.

YDYD: Obsidian Finale

That's a wrap, everybody! After some technical difficulties threatened the server's last session the gang was able to get some last minute things together and take on the ender dragon! They made it through with no deaths! Some elytras and a dragon egg later they were back at spawn with their prize atop the Tower of Pimps, then we indulged in some chaos for awhile before finally taking group pictures.

Before I send this off with the final screenshots of season 1 I wanted to say thank you to everyone for being a part of this. What started as a silly idea made it's way to an entire summer spent on this and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. <3

Let's get ready for Alfreyco Appreciation Month!!

For Alfreyco Appreciation Month, I’ve assembled a list of prompts to use as inspiration for your art, writing, or whatever else you want to make! The month will be officially starting on June 18 and ending on July 15, and each week has weekly prompts listed with their dates below. (If you’re not able to finish your piece(s) until after the 15th though that’s totally fine; I want this to be fun and chill for everyone so feel free to post whenever you can!)

The first group below is a bunch of prompts intended for posting at any point during the month. Feel free to combine any of them, and use them for any kind of media you want!

Following those are all of the weekly prompts, which will also be posted individually at the start of every week. There are two kinds of prompts intended primarily for writing (one combination of prompts and one single prompt), and one that is intended more for visual art! Please don’t feel obliged to write or draw something for every week, but if you do choose a weekly prompt it would be great if you could post it during that week so that everyone doing that prompt can talk about your work together! <3

1. How did you get into AH?

I had a group of friends back in 2017 who all watched Camp Camp, and eventually I got curious enough and checked out the show for myself. I loved it and after a while, I found an animatic using an audio from the Rage Quit: Slender video. Then that spiraled into me watching a TON of AH content.

10. Favorite series?

Either YDYD or Challenge Accepted. YDYD always holds a special place in my heart despite all the stress it brings me haha, but Challenge Accepted is amazing and it's hilarious to watch the Achievement Hunters attempt the challenges and just get increasingly more frustrated.

13. Favorite Quote?

Either "'How did he drown?' 'UNDERWATER, MATT!'" or anytime Trevor goes "You son."

My younger sibling doesn't watch Achievement Hunter but they did watch ydyd 1 with me 2x because I absolutely was obsessed with it and she likes AH. Anyway, I've just moved out so I haven't seen her in a bit but we've got that sibling thing where we act like we're arguing and we'll swear at each other. When we get too into it and we want to cool down or de-escalate something that's starting to turn into a real argument we'll say "Gav! I'm gonna beat you to death." (Bc trevor says it in a really funny inflection in the first ydyd ep)

Ya Dead, Ya Dead - Season 4 (Part 1) - Minecraft

Heyo, been wondering for a while now, I've been seeing this thing I think is called Limited Life, and at first I just assumed it's like ydyd, but lately the fanart that's being churned out is like the artsy dramatic kind, with poetic quotes and stuff. Got me thinking if there really is something else in those videos, or if I just missed out on dramatic fanart of ydyd too

you're right in that both ya dead, ya dead and the life series (of which limited life is the 4th and most recent season of) inspire fans to create the cool, dramatic fan content based on the events of each respective series.

however!!!

part of what makes the life series unique are (at least in my view) 3 major things:

each season has separate points of view for each participant on their individual youtube channels, as opposed to the AH series having each of their episodes cutting through different perspectives like a more traditional let's play

each season has a distinct, major gimmick so that you don't have to see the previous seasons to understand the rules, + the titles for the seasons give you a hint on how gameplay works. for example, limited life is based on the concept of time. each participant has 24 hours to life. they lose 1 hour if they die in the game, and gain 30 minutes if they successfully kill another player.

ydyd has always exclusively had AH members, while the life series include many hermitcraft members, as well as their friends outside of that server

finally, what both series share in common besides the whole "you're fully out of the game if you die"* thing is the alliances the participants build with each other as the series progress :)

*under certain conditions, depending on what season of either series you're watching lol

Some final thoughts:

It was really fun! It does kind of suck that I was (I think) the only one to reach my obsidian life and then die fully, but that was also completely on me and my playing style. I did start the server saying "Here to party or die stupidly" and boy did I die stupidly. My deaths were pretty funny and we did (unknowingly that it would happen) joke about dying to bees. Getting to be on a (small) server again with others and build with them was fun and getting to see what others do with Minecraft is neat. It was surprising how long it lasted. Getting to use shaders and take pretty pictures of the things that were made was awesome. A lot of jokes were made and I'm very much down to do this again if I am able to! Being able to do an Achievement Hunter kind of adaptation to a game was so fun.

If I remember correctly:

Death 1: Escaping zombie, skeleton, lava, and fire in a mineshaft. I think it was fall damage that killed me

Death 2: Fell through the mob grinder (and then almost did it again not even two minutes later)

Death 3: Creeper

Gained life 1 back: After creeper death, killing a chicken on skulk (I think that's what it was)

Death 4: Falling off the scaffolding up the mob grinder despite putting water down to prevent death

Death 5: Falling down into a ravine

Death 6: BEES. wHY did it have to be bees!

YDYD: Obsidian Recap!

I! Am! Back!

Today we had phantom fights, and a wither fight that ended in two deaths (RIP @monarchisms & @bizarepistachio they still have 3 lives each). The gang came out victorious, though, with a nether star and one (1) wither rose.

Barbie's Dreamhouse is now complete with a piss beam and our resident parrot who now acts as the groups morale booster. Up next, the dragon fight.

alright i was hoping to get at least one other picture done but this is gonna have to do for now, been a fan of these boys long as i can remember and ydyd 2 is by far one of my favourite minecraft letsplays out there! i also wanted an excuse to try out krita to see if i prefer it over firealpaca, its close but i think im too used to firealpaca atm :) anyway enjoy!
